It's funny

How you don't realize how much you appreciate something until it's gone. Lets take health for example. You wake up almost everyday and go to work, school etc. and don't think twice about how you're body is feeling/working. Then, one day, you wake up and feel like you were sucking on razor blades all night and your head feels like it's going to explode. Only then do you really truly appreciate all those days you felt like a million bucks. I guess I'm just saying don't take things that are always there for granted, because one day you will wake up and they won't be there anymore.

RAWR

I don't know if it's the lack of sun this last week but I just can't seem to get happy. Too much shit to deal with right now to be relaxed. I've been having super weird dreams cause I'm too hot at night and on top of all that the holidays are here and I have no job to pay for presents. Maybe it's the seven seasons of trailer park boys that I just watched but I'm ready to just move into a trailer, start growing dope and sit around and dream up ridiculous schemes to get money. Anybody wanna come? Oh yeah and I wanna dress like bubbles.

for...ummmm

So I was searching for some song lyrics today on google and got a little lost. Let me explain. I hit the search button and got lots of results but nothing that told me who the artist was. I was about to try again when the first result in the page caught my eye. Here's the line I'm talking about:

All girls at my school are pretty much materalistic snobby race mixing whores. ... with people of the same interests, maybe a hobby with mostly whites. .... My current girlfriend was dating someone else when I met her, .... So if you lived in Germany, how would you act different to what you do now? ...

In my head I was thinking, "wow, that sounds a tad bit racist...I wonder what kind of forum this is from". So of course I decided to check it out. I opened the thread and started reading this forum about how this kid couldn't find any nice smart white girls to date at his school so he was asking for advice on how to find some. Here are some of the responses other people left:

Yeah I know what your saying. All girls at my school are pretty much materalistic snobby race mixing whores. :(

My advice to you is to first avoid the non-white friends. No smart and decent white girl will be attracted to you because of your company. Try to befriend only other whites and tell them that you are looking for this and this type of white girl. They may be able to set you up with blind dates

Get your education on. Work out. Fake a high confidence.

Be a man, fulfill all the clichès (cool look, guitar, whatever works, poetic lines that strike home).

So I was extremely interested in what the hell this site was where all these kids were getting together and talking like this, so I clicked the link to their home page and low and behold it was a youth forum for White nationalists! This is not the first time I have stumbled across one of these sites. It creeps me out every time to think that there are actually people who have these fucked up ideals and views that get on their computers and spread their racist bullshit everywhere. Really gets my panties in a bunch.

online homework

Alright, I know that online homework is probably a teachers best friend nowadays. No more grading papers by hand. No printing out assignments and all that other bullshit.

But I am thoroughly fed up with doing two hours of homework and then checking the next day, only to find non of it was recorded. How do you prove that?! There's no paper trail. It's not like I turned it in and got a shit grade. I did it and got full credit and now have to start all over!

And if you've ever used an online homework site you know exactly what I'm talking about. Maybe I'm just an analog boy living in a digital world, and I sound like someone's grandpa right now but seriously...fuck online homework.

In other news...If you like Sufjan stevens and hip-hop, you should go check out this free remix album from TOR:

It's got some good tracks with some awesome artists.

I haven't

Got anything important to talk about. So I think I will just ramble.

I'm extremely excited for Julian Casablancas new album to come out on the 3rd! If you don't know he is the lead singer of The Strokes and while they were on their musical hiatus he decided to write an album. From what I've heard so far it is very 80's driven and I LIKE THAT! Besides the artwork for it is awesome. Here are some promos:

Other than that I guess I will share some music that I can't get enough of lately:

1. Camera Obscura-French Navy
2. Camera Obscura-The Sweetest Thing
3. Julian Casablancas-11th Dimension
4. Mayer Hawthorne-Just Ain't Gonna Work
5. Mayer Hawthorne-Make Her Mine
6. Sparklehorse-Little Girl (feat. Julian Casablancas)
7. Stars-This Charming Man
8. Weezer-Run Over By A Truck
9. Wu-tang-What's happening ft. Busta Rhymes
10. Felt-Woman tonight
11. John Legend-Slow dance

If you're going to check out anybody check out Mayer Hawthorne. He is this white boy from Ann Arbor who was a DJ for 12 years and then started writing soul, influenced by music his dad used to play in the car when he was a kid. He sounds like he could be Curtis Mayfields love child and I'm pretty jealous of his whole album "A Strange Arrangement" .

Tough mornings

Today was pretty brutal getting up. It's getting harder and harder to pry myself from my down comforter and walk into the freezing bathroom to hop in a shower that only stays warm for three minutes. I feel like we completely skipped Oct and went straight to winter! Never the less I am at school, going to classes, taking notes, trying to focus as much as possible.

I am actually really stoked for winter to get here! Not so much for the cold but for the snow. I haven't gone sledding in two years and last winter wasn't exactly my most active winter. But this year I've got a whole building of people to go outside and hang out with. This is probably the most ideal living situation I could have ever imagined. I don't have to leave my apartment to hang out with all my friends at once and all i have to do is walk downstairs to see my beautiful girlfriend.

The other perk is the free meals! Lately brittany has been whipping up some pretty sweet community meals for everyone and they have been delicious! Since four of us have bridge cards now we can afford to have healthy meals together and not have to worry about running out of food. (with $200 a month how could you?!)

Nick came up Tuesday night for a surprise visit which was awesome! I love it when friends make the drive for one night to hang out since sometimes it's impossible with school. I'm looking forward to seeing Tiger! Tiger! on Oct. 30th with La Dispute. I haven't seen either band in a while and I miss going to local shows and seeing old friends.

All in all I'm pretty content right now. I've been indulging in Zombie movies lately. (I found the original dawn of the dead, the new dawn of the dead and land of the dead all for just $16!) There goes my entertainment money for the month! Oh well, totally worth it. I love my zombies!

Zombie+clown= : )

Recently Chelsea and I were having a conversation about zombies, well I was talking about zombies and Chelsea was listening to me rant, and I commented on the lack of zombie clown's in film. Now I love zombies and find them extremely fascinating, but if I ever encountered a zombie clown I would probably just wet myself and run home. So when I found out that there was going to be a zombie clown appearance in the upcoming "Zombieland" film, Well I got a little excited. Here he is in all his bloody childhood nightmare glory:

R.I.P. Papa

On July 3rd I got a call that my grandfather had passed away. It was unexpected because he was 82 years old and still very healthy. As I type this I'm sitting in his house on lake michigan where I've been for the last week with my dad and two brothers. It's been a week full of good memories, looking through old pictures and news clippings, and looking in all the nooks and crannys I was never allowed to explore.

I've also accumulated some possessions from this house that remind me of my grandpa such as his old brown chair and all his old pipes that he used to smoke. Just the smell alone takes me back to when he would sit down and in that chair, pack his pipe and smoke and read his books and magazines. I also got his long bow and a mug that my dad bought for him when he was just a boy. My grandpa was a great man and I will miss him very much.

The funniest part of this week has to be the discovery of my grandpa's gun collection. Before I got up here my uncle was cleaning out his room and found a loaded revolver in his night stand! What he needed that for I don't know but this led to the revealing of his collection that I, up to this point, had no idea about. Here is a picture of his collection and a list of the all the guns in the house.

Stevens 12 gauge Dbl. Barrel model 3iL Series H B

Union Machine 10 gauge Dbl. Barrel

Marlin semi Automatic 22 w/ Bushnell scope

Winchester model 90 22 Wrf Pump

Winchester model 1906 22 Pump

Forehand Arms 32 Gal. Revolver

Marlin 22 Revolver (7 shot)

Allens Patent muzzle load (Single) W/Mold 1845

Frontier Navy Revolver

Wooden Muzzle loader single shot

Here is the gun that was found loaded in his night stand:

This week has been full of both sad and happy memories. I'm glad I got to come up here with my family and have this time to remember a great man. Rest in peace papa. Love you always.

Once again

life feels stale. No creativity, no passion and no change. I really need to get out of this town and back where I have time to do what I love. I'm sick of waking up and feeling like I have nothing to look forward to all day. I love everyone here but i feel like i'm losing myself in the constant movement of life. I need silence and time to write music, take pictures, write lyrics, watch my favorite movies, and listen to my favortie albums all the way through without having to go somewhere or do something for somebody else. Hopefully these next two weeks will bring me back from the grave.

So I was driving home from work today...

and it dawned on me how happy singing makes me. I can't remember the last time I've gone a whole day without singing a song or just singing anything. The sheer joy I get out of singing along to songs I don't even know the words to while I'm driving to work is amazing! I wish people sang together more. People are so uptight about singing in front of others, me included. I wish I could drive around with a car full of friends and have everybody do a different harmony to "Bohemian Rhapsody".

On a side note, I saw Copeland on saturday at the mix tape in Grand Rapids! I really liked the venue. Mainly because I got to stand on the bench seats they have against the wall so i could see right over the crowd. Barcelona and Sherwood opened. Barcelona was more memorable than Sherwood and sounded at least ten times better. Copeland was exactly what I thought it would be. A dreamy sing-a-long that I wish could have kept going all night. Overall it was a sweet show!

In other other news I'm moving back up to Kalamazoo next week and I couldn't be more stoked to be done with beaches and moving into my new apartment. Well kind of. For the next month I'll be living in Chelsea's apartment because our lease is up on the 31st of july and we can't move into our new place until August 29th. LLLLAAAAAAAMMMMMMEEEEEEE....But it worked out so that I can live at Chels's for the month to try and find a job. Thanks again chels. ; )

turkey love in the woods

Have you ever heard turkeys making love? Well yesterday I thought I did.

It all started with an innocent trip to kensington metro park with my trusty swinging partner C.K. We went to our sooper dooper secret swinging spot in the middle of the woods where we knew no one would disturb us. First we decided we would go chill in our even more secret flippin fantastical hiddin over grown baseball field and dream about what we would be when we grow up. Before we even made it there we ran across a pack of wild turkeys who looked slightly horny and annoyed that we had walked in on their party, but they were blocking our path and we had to get to our destination. They reluctantly moved to the side and let us pass. That's when I busted out this little tid bit of info I had picked up that turkeys actually sleep in trees. Everybody thinks they can't fly but they totally can! Just not really far...but far enough to sleep in trees. C.K. was skeptical of my source as always and I assured her it was true. If you don't believe me either, check this shizz out:

So while we were there we heard odd noises from the woods that sounded like loud clapping noises. We searched high and low for a source and found nothing! I finally came to the conclusion that it must be those sex hungry turkeys we saw earlier doing the dirty and getting WAY too into it. The only obvious logical answer.

As we were leaving the park to walk up to the car we heard another noise from the baseball field and looked over to see whole trees rustling, as if T-rex himself was about to bust through the opening and grab me up like that guy from JP while he was hiding in the bathroom. My next thought was "Oh man! I bet that was a turkey flying up into the tree to roost for the night. I gotta see this!" So C.K. and I bolted back to the field to see these birds in action. As I neared the field I realized this was no turkey roosting...A giant tree had fallen right in the middle of the field! Right where I had suggested we should sit and ponder earlier!?! WE WERE ALMOST CRUSHED ALIVE! Okay maybe not but it is crazy to think we could have been. So that whole time I thought I was hearing turkey sex, I was actually hearing this monstrosity of a tree cracking and popping ready to fall at any minute. We thanked the tree for blessing us with the invitation to it's funeral and headed home for some chocolate and apples to apples.

The End

I need to stop eating taco bell...

I probably have taco bell at least once a day if you average it out. Somedays I have it twice so it makes up for the days I don't. Damn value menu! 89 cents is just so damn cheap for a burrito. And yet I still can't figure out why I have chronic heartburn at work everyday... :p

FUCKING DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN!

Sorry dad, I know I said I would cut down on my swearing in my blog but this one deserves it. Last night was by far the greatest live show I have ever been to! Even before we got to the venue I had butterflies in my stomach and was even a little nervous. I had seen Dillinger before last night when they opened for Cavilary conspiracy or whateverthefuck their name is and I was to say the least dissapointed in the show in general. It just didn't live up to the reputation they have for being one of the best live bands in the world. Luckily last night made up for that ten fold!

I'll start this off with a quote from Mr. Greg Puciato himself:

"Ok so sitting backstage at Reggie's Rock Club in Chicago, about to eat some dinner, figured I'd check in with you guys. First off, thanks to everyone who has come out so far...to Long Island, to Philadelphia, to DC, to Raleigh, to Bonnaroo, to Pontiac. These shows have been amazing and very invigorating for us as a band. Every one of these shows has been shockingly high energy, and the vibe between us and you guys has never been higher. Last night alone, when within seconds the stage barricade was pushed over and eventually taken out, fuuuuuck. There are people coming who have seen us 50 times, 20 times, 7 times, and many people who are just seeing us for the first time. All coming separately, but all leaving as one big sweaty blob ready to tell posers everywhere to SUCK IT."

I was standing right behind that barricade when it got annihilated by the overpowering mob of fans. The security guard was trying the whole entire first song to pull the barricade out from under the crowd and finally had to call in reinforcements. Even then they couldn't get the bike racks out for at least one more song. After they freed the beast(crowd) everyone moved forward and people were instantly crushed into each other as dillinger rocked the fuck out of the 250 people crammed into the pike room.

Now I know this show sounds crazy but there is no way to fathom the insanity of being in this crowd unless you were next to me being crushed, tripped, and all together raped by my fellow dillinger enthusiasts. At one point I thought I was either going to puke, pass out or just plain die from heat exhaustion. Basically it was what felt like an eternity of ear shattering kick ass rock that I wanted to be over and go on forever simultaneously. It's been 24 hours and my ears are still ringing! I could go into more detail but you just had to be there. It was something I will never forget and I can't wait until I get to do it again.

life...finally

Yesterday was a good day for life. More like wild life i guess. I was sitting outside Chelsea's house with her family enjoying the warm sun and breeze when I got a call from my buddy Corey. He explained he needed my expert advice on how to get a squirrel out of your heater. Being the beast tamer I am I jumped at the opportunity to help.

Chels and I headed over to my mom's house to gather supplies for the task at hand. But before we made it home I spotted another creature begging to be captured. A cold blooded serpent was sticking it's head out onto the pavement halfway down my road contemplating crossing the road and I insisted Chelsea turn the car around so I could catch my first snake of the year.

I got out and soon realized this was no common Garter Snake. This was a Northern Water Snake! I hadn't seen one since a four foot beast slithered out from under a pile of trash at the end of my driveway seven or eight years ago. I quickly grabbed the creature by the tail and attempted to grab the head while it trashed and tried to escape all the while shitting all over the place (which is a defense mechanism snakes use to not be eaten). It sang it's teeth into me at least two times before I managed to subdue him/her.

Once I got back to my house with the beast I showed my brothers and proceeded to go straight into animal planet mode and started snapping pictures like I was one of those crazy A-holes who photograph ten foot cobras an what not. This is what I got:

So next it was off to Corey's house to solve the mystery of the hiddin Squirrel. I could bore you with the details of how we managed to finagle the little guy out but all I will say is that it involved a lot of bad planning and finally ended with Corey reaching his hand into the furnace and grabbing the thing. He was a lot cuter and less vicious than I imagined. He even let us pet him after a while! Here is the little Red Squirrel corey affectionately named Dale:

Bout time

I don't know if it's cause I'm going home today to see my girl and hang with my Grandma, or the sun shining down on me but I am in a really good mood today and it makes me feel good about life. Somedays you are just like "life sucks, I hate school, I just want to sleep!" NOT TODAY! Today is a good day.

well kids

I'm sure someone with extremely better grammer and writing skills has ranted about this before, but what the hell is up with Uggs and Northface jackets?! I don't know if it's just a college campus epidemic but I think someone needs to tell these girls they all look exactly the same. I don't know for the life of me why you would consciencely (which apparently isn't a word) want to wear the exact same thing as a thousand other people. I'm not just picking on the girls because there are a lot of guys on campus who wear Northface jackets too.

Maybe if I started photographing everybody I see on campus wearing this ridiculous combination and made a website where it was just a page of all these pictures, maybe, just maybe these sad souls would realize they look like some weird fleece cult who pay 100 dollars for SLIPPERS?!?!?!?!

Another thing I've realized in my time on this earth is that teenagers who go to the mall, consciencely or subconsciencely (this is still to be determined) dress scarily similar. Three guys will be walking and they will all have baseball caps, Hollister hoodies, pre-faded jeans and some sort of leather shoes on. Don't believe me? Next time you are at the mall just stop and take a second to look at a group of young'ins walkin around. Guarantee while you are there you will see at least 3-4 groups of clones trodding around. Ok I know this was a pretty bitchy blog so I'll lighten the mood a little with a joke.

Two campers are hiking in the woods when one is bitten on the rear end by a rattlesnake. “I’ll go into town for a doctor,” the other says. He runs ten miles to a small town and finds the town’s only doctor, who is delivering a baby. “I can’t leave,” the doctor says. ‘But here’s what to do. Take a knife, cut a little X where the bite is, suck out the poison and spit it on the ground.” The guy ruins back to his friend, who is in agony. ‘What did the doctor say?” the victim asks. “He says you’re gonna die.”

well well well

I don't really have anything interesting to say, I went all the way up to school today to see a counselor and the office was closed so now I'm stealin some internet time before I go back home. I'm super stoked today though cause Brittany my roommate and I are signing a lease for next fall where we will be living in the same hall as all my friends! There's six apartments in this complex, three upstairs and three downstairs. The bottom three are all open so It's gonna be Garrett and Brad in one, Austin and Katie in one and Me and Brittany in the other one! It's gonna be so awesome to live so close to such awesome people.

And it's a possibility that my super duper girlfriend and her sweet friend Tyffany might live in one of the apartments in our building which would be pretty much make our complex the coolest one around. So cross your fingers.

In other news I've been trying to get in shape for my beach job this summer. It all started when i got on the scale after being back at school for a month and I weighed 165 pounds!?!?!?! I know this doesn't sound like a lot but considering I've never weighed more than 150 in my entire life I decided it was time to get some musk-ulls. I've been doing push-ups, sit-ups and riding my stationary bike I used for my PT when I messed up my leg. I tried to do these new push-ups today where you close your fists and use your knuckles to push yourself up. That shit is hard! try it.

Ok well i think I'm gonna go buy some groceries. I've been eating spoonfulls of peanut butter and Nutella, and cambells soup for the last week So i think it's time i get some real food. Before I go you should go check out my friends band Tiger Tiger. They're really awesome dudes and they need some money cause they're on tour so go to their shows when they get back in town and buy some shit! here's their myspace:

So whenever I go to put my little apple headphones on i always look to make sure I've got the left on the left and same with the right. The only thing is that every time i go to do it, the headphones are in the wrong hands. So the left headphone is in the right and so forth. Every fucking time! next time you go to put your headphones on see if you have the same problem as I do. Oh yeah, My kick ass girlfriend is coming up for the night. Bodacious!

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Hey bitches

So the other night we were hanging over at Maria's, I was the DD for the night and everybody was pretty toasted when we got over there. There was this one kid named Bennett who was extremely drunk and pissed off because everybody was making fun of him for not having a girlfriend. All night he was walking around asking where the bitches were at, and demanding that someone invite some over. Probably halfway through the night he found his coat and decided to walk around outside to find some bitches.

Everybody at the party kinda forgot about him for a while until about a half an hour later he walks in with a huge red eye. I immediately ask what happened to his eye and he just says nothing. It was pretty obvious he either got in a fight or ran into a car mirror or something. He refused to tell us what happen so we kinda let it go. He went upstairs and all of a sudden we heard a bunch of laughter and he came back downstairs and admitted to us that he had been punched, but not by a guy. He had been layed out BY A GIRL! He walked us through his adventure. I guess he had walked up to a group of girls walking down the street and yelled "What's up bitches?!" One of them asked "what did you say to me?" and he politely replied "I said what's up bitches?!" I guess the biggest girl in the group which he compared to a hippo walked up and threw a haymaker right at his face. He was so stunned he didn't know what to do so he just walked away.

After the story was over we understood why he was so reluctant to tell us what happened. Twenty minutes later he went back outside to get his revenge and beat up this hippo but to no avail. She was nowhere to be found. Either way it was one of the most entertaining nights I'd had in a while.

I see you dream

So the other night I had this awesome dream and I wrote it down as soon as I woke up. I Guess I'll let it speak for itself. Here it is verbatim because it's funny how I was still super groggy when I was writing this:

"We went to the movies to see some sweet band play and I snuck into the bathroom and put the number twelve looks like you on a CD player in the last stahl. I went to check into the movie and my movie ticket wouldn't go through the checker which was setup like the subway. So after fucking around with this ticket guy and playing some dice game to try and get in I left and walked around. I waited for him to leave and jumped the turn-style. Then I ran into the band and the lead singer was Will ferrell! Then I proceeded to as how he liked the music playing by throwing up a devil sign and banging my head a couple times. He looked pissed off so I headed towards the bathroom to shut off the music. I went into the last stall and the door had been kicked in. I turned the CD player off and unplugged the thing only to discover that the music wasn't coming from the CD player anymore. It was like the music was being played all over the theater. I decided to walk around and met up with my Mom and Dad who were dressed reall funny. They took me around to meet all the celebrities all the while in the background there's grind music playing. I woke up to realize I had fallen asleep with the number twelve blasting out of my speakers in surround sound. Hence the mysterious music I couldn't shut off in my dream!"

Next time you fall asleep, look down on us at earth and realize that it may be better to forever count sheep.
You're the captain of your ship and star.
But for today you will shine and be imprevious to pain, we have all admired your bravery, your bravery.

fail blog

There are many reasons why I wish i could carry my camera on me at all times but last week takes the cake. So my brother Ben (Cheese as I affectionately call him) and I were purchasing some food and bedding for my new roommates the rats from Pet provisions in Brighton. As we were walking out a lady walked up to the counter wearing a FUR COAT. Immediately after leaving the store Ben and I looked at each other and said how great that picture would have been for fail blog. I think i might just carry a disposable in my car from now on for just such an occasion. I would totally walk back in and snap a picture of this fool buying food for her little shitzu or whatever wearing some other animals skin. Needless to say we got a laugh out of it.

Zing!

If this doesn't prove that Star Trek is the best show ever, than I don't know what else I can do to convince you.

I just stumbled across this beauty and it made me extremely sad that I found out about these guys after they called it quits. Check out how towards the end of the song they almost take out the speaker. rock and roll.

K-ZOO

I went shooting downtown with my buddy Ed the other day which was really nice. I haven't taken more than a few pictures at a time in a while. Downtown Kalamazoo might not look like much but it actually has a lot of character and we found some cool shit to photograph. I've been really wrapped up in doing nothing lately and i think i want to start shooting more and enjoying my camera. I'll leave you with a picture of this guy we met right before we ended our shoot. He jokingly asked for his picture to be taken and before he could refuse i had already snapped this gem so enjoy.

motivation

This weather is not helping me get around campus.  I need like an all wheel drive rascal with a snow shield and a seat warmer. Scratch that, maybe WMU will just let me drive one of these around campus...
